Beginnings

Melbourne Host, now in District 201V1 was the first Victorian Club chartered in 1952 as Club number 3 and was quickly followed by Geelong, Club number 13 and Essendon number 14.

District Structuring

Lions Clubs are structured into districts with our first District being designated 201C with the Late Mervyn Penteath OAM as our first District Governor and this District included some South Australian Clubs. At the time there were five districts within Australia. Because of the rapid growth of the Lions movement in Australia, new districts were continuously being formed and in 1964 the number of districts had leapt to 9 with the South Australian Clubs leaving our District. Our designation changed to District 201M in 1968 and has since changed to 201V3 in 1977. We have a proud history of good leadership in out District and would again like to show our appreciation to those who have guided our development.
